"Though there have been reports that all the rejected candidates have vowed to work for the party and accept whatever responsibility they are given, two hours after the announcement of the list, Mr Tawde held a press conference at the party headquarters in south Mumbai and said that his party should contemplate on the refusal of ticket. There is no issue of who is elder brother and who is younger brother here," the Sena chief said on Friday.A bodyguard of Ghatkopar East candidate Parag Shah — who was favoured over sitting MLA and former state housing minister Prakash Mehta — was roughed up and his car was damaged. Mr Mehta is facing allegations of irregularities in a south Mumbai redevelopment project.Other prominent leaders such as Raj Purohit, Vishnu folding gazebo tent Savara, Dilip Kamble and Chandrashekhar Bawankule have also been denied tickets.Mumbai: Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray were a picture of congeniality on Friday when they addressed a joint press conference on the last day of filing nominations for October 21 Assembly polls."

We are in this alliance with our hearts and mind. I have been following RSS culture. Shiv Sena workers are demanding Airoli seat to be given to the party. Some party workers go to the Assembly and some work from outside the Assembly. But at this juncture, it is not the time to think about who has made a mistake," he said, and then added, "I am a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) worker. In Nashik, Shiv Sena workers too were angered with the fact that all three seats in the city have gone to the BJP in the seat sharing pact."  But the BJP, which on Friday released its last list of candidates with seven names for the state Assembly election, has a tough task ahead. Shiv Sena city unit chief Vijay Nahta wants to contest from the seat. The Sena and BJP had contested the state polls separately in 2014.On Thursday, BJP workers, angered over party ticket to Abhimamyu Pawar, Mr Fadnavis’s PA, took to streets staging a "rasta roko" protest on Thursday. Shiv Sena leader Vilas Shinde even went on to announce that he is mulling to file nominations against BJP candidate Seema Hirey from Nashik East.Since BJP and Shiv Sena agreed on an alliance, both the parties have been dealing with large-scale protests from rebels in different parts of the state."The BJP had released its first list on Tuesday with 125 names, the second list the following night with 14 names and third list the following evening with four names. Several party leaders resigned en masse on Tuesday protesting against both the seats in Navi Mumbai been given to ally BJP..Of the 288 Assembly seats in Maharashtra, the Shiv Sena will contest 124, smaller NDA allies such as RPI and RSP will contest 14, and the remaining 150 seats will be contested by the BJP, Mr Fadnavis said on Friday. The BJP, however, has given the ticket to his daughter Rohini. In Borivali, party workers gheraoed Member of Parliament Gopal Shetty’s house after state education minister Vinod Tawde was denied a ticket, while Muktainagar, the constituency of former revenue minister Eknath Khadse — who was sidelined in the party following allegations of corruption and that he misused his office in a land deal — also witnessed protests as the leader, who had been representing the seat since 1991, didn’t figure on the list. In places like Latur and Navi Mumbai, protests even spilled on the streets.Similar protests were witnessed in Navi Mumbai by Shiv Sena workers.

While political observers have said that Mr Fadnavis has sidelined those who have made him uncomfortable, the BJP leadership claims that the situation is under control and has denied the existence of any rifts within the party. The Sena had maintained earlier that it was the "elder brother" (dominant partner) in the saffron combine."If the party has made any mistake by not giving me the ticket, it will introspect."  Speaking about rebel candidates, Mr Fadnavis said, "They will be asked to withdraw within two days, or else they will be shown their place. The two leaders reiterating that "Hindutva" is the common thread binding the Bharatiya Janata Party and Shiv Sena, and asserted that their "alliance will post an unprecedented victory.Addressing the issue Mr Fadnavis said, "The roles (of party leaders) keep changing. Its choice of candidates has resulted in disappointment, protests and even fistfights.

Probably for the first time officially, Mr Gandhi said that rebuilding the party would require "hard decisions" and that many people would have to be made accountable, apart from himself... Thus, whoever is selected as Congress president by the CWC will have to be ratified by the AICC in the next six months or if elections are held for the position."The letter goes on to say that this capture of power will result in "unimaginable levels of violence and pain for India", while alleging that the PM’s win does not negate the "breadth of corruption allegations against him". Mr Gandhi has said time and again since the May 25 meeting that he would not be part of the process to select a new Congress president.C. India has never and will never be one voice. The Indian nation must unite to reclaim and resuscitate its institutions, and the instrument of this resuscitation will be the Congress, he said: "To achieve this important task, the Congress Party must radically transform itself.

There is a real danger that from now on (that) elections will go from being a determinant of India’s future to a mere ritual. At times I stood completely alone and am extremely proud of it. The stated objectives of the RSS, the capture of our country’s institutional structure, is now complete. The Wayanad MP said he had personally fought Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the RSS and the institutions they have captured with all his being. At the May 25 CWC meeting, Mr Gandhi is understood to have directly blamed Mr Gehlot, Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath and senior leader P.The formal letter of resignation comes over a month after he had made his intent to quit clear at a stocktaking meeting of the CWC after the Lok Sabha results, with the Congress suffering a major debacle. That is the true essence of Bharat Mata. The Congress constitution also deems that in such circumstances, the CWC gets powers to take any decision, which then needs to be ratified by the AICC within the next six months. Today the BJP is systematically crushing the voice of the Indian people. Rebuilding the party requires hard decisions and numerous people will have to be made accountable for the failure of 2019.In the four-page letter released on Twitter, Mr Gandhi asked the Congress Working Committee to entrust a group of people with the task of finding a new president as it would not be proper for him to do so, and stressed on the need for the Congress to "radically transform itself". Accountability is critical for the future growth of our party. It would be unjust to hold others accountable but ignore my own responsibility as president of the party," he said. Our democracy has been fundamentally weakened. It is for this reason that I have resigned as Congress president.AICC general secretary (organisation) K. Sources said that the next CWC meeting will be called as early as next week due to the "unprecedented" circumstances. Chidambaram for seeking tickets for their sons."He added that he did not fight a political party in the 2019 election but the entire machinery of the Indian State.Under the Congress constitution, the seniormost general secretary, which in this case is Motilal Vora, the 90-year old former party treasurer, will be the working president of the party till the next meeting of the Congress Working Committee is called. "I fought because I love India. However, sources said that Mr Gandhi continues to be the Congress president till the CWC formally accepts his resignation letter.New Delhi: The speculation over Rahul folding tent factory Gandhi remaining Congress president finally came to an end on Wednesday as he released a formal resignation letter in which he gave strong indications that others in the party should also follow suit.

It is the duty of the Congress Party to defend these voices.. It is and always will be a symphony of voices. Venugopal has already started calling up members of the CWC in order to decide on a date for the meeting.Incidentally, it is not necessary for Mr Gandhi to attend the meeting. Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, former Union minister Sushilkumar Shinde and Karnataka leader Mallikarjun Kharge are among the frontrunners."As president of the Congress Party, I am responsible for the loss of the 2019 election.Since his resignation, the party saw prolonged drama with senior leaders requesting him to continue, while demonstrations were held in front of the AICC office and many junior party functionaries quit.

The Congress won only 52 out of 542 parliamentary seats, just six more than its 2014 tally. Instead, it was "bulldozed" without any formal discussions, said sources.Leaders close to Mr Gandhi said he is "not abandoning the post" even though he is determined to quit. The three resignations took the tally of PCC chiefs quitting after the poll debacle to six.Several leaders withinthe party had serious reservations about the way the party had conducted its election campaign.Chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said the CWC meeting was a democratic forum for exchange of ideas and custom party tents taking corrective action, adding that it was a "closed-door" meeting and any speculation about it was unwarranted and uncalled for.The party could not open its account in 18 states and Union Territories. He will give the party time to choose a new person for the top post.

Embarrassed by media reports hinting at internal party rumblings during the CWC meeting, the Congress urged reporters not to fall into the trap of "conjectures, insinuations, gossip and rumour-mongering".Meanwhile the spate of resignations in the Congress continued on Monday. Venugopal.Sources said Nikhil Alva, son of Congress leader Margaret Alva, had been "para-dropped" to take care of Mr Gandhi’s interactions with the media, sidelining the communications department. Sources said that Mr Gandhi told the two leaders that he is firm on his decision to quit and the party should soon find his successor.New Delhi: After the massive rout in Lok Sabha polls, rumblings within the Congress continued for the fourth consecutive day as party president Rahul Gandhi remained adamant about quitting, a proposal he had made before the Congress Working Committee on Saturday while taking responsibility for the defeat.

The campaign material and content was also not openly discussed with leaders of the party to get an honest feedback. Various conjectures, speculation, insinuations, assumptions, gossip and rumour mongering in a section of the media is uncalled for and unwarranted.".On Monday, all meetings of Mr Gandhi were cancelled, including with the party’s newly-elected lawmakers, though he met two senior leaders — Ahmed Patel and general secretary (organisation) K. We would request everyone, including the media, to not fall into the trap of conjectures or speculation and await the calibrated efforts by the Congress party towards the future course of action.C.In a statement he further added, "The Congress party expects everyone, including the media, to respect the sanctity of a closed-door meeting of the CWC. Three more state Congress unit presidents, Sunil Jakhar of Punjab Congress, Ajoy Kumar of Jharkhand and Ripun Bora of Assam, sent their resignations to the party president.

And that is not good for the country," he said..Gogoi was responding to a question about division of "secular" votes in 2014 that helped BJP secure a majority in the Lok Sabha on its own, the strongest public mandate secured by any party since 1984 when the Congress had won a landslide."The Congresss prospects this time are very good. That is why we have not been able to form alliances in many places," Gogoi told news agency in an interview. The Congress leader claimed that the Centres assertions on development were "sheer propaganda". "If we praise them here, how will we criticise them there?"He, however, insisted all opposition parties were unanimous in their view that they must fight the Narendra Modi governments "dictatorial and pro-rich" policies.. Probably, he is the only one to become the prime minister with the lowest percentage of votes," Gogoi claimed.

Rahul Gandhi does not override the sentiments of local leaders who are heard and given due importance," he said. He (PM Modi) only gave an impression that he is the most popular prime minister. I think it will get around 200 seats."How many votes did they (BJP) get last time? Only 31 per cent.Keep yourself updated on Lok Sabha Elections 2019 with our round-the-clock coverage -- breaking news, updates, analyses et all. Our party gives importance to regional leadership. He also claimed that the BJPs tally in states like Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, where it had scored impressive victories like never before, will go down. Indian people are intelligent."Though the Congress is often dubbed as a dynastic party, it is the most democratic party. The Congress leader conceded that uniting all opposition parties on one platform is not an easy task as ideological differences and reluctance to cede political space to each other often come in the way. That is also needed. Why should we leave our seat when the other party doesnt? Yes, it will be better if things are done in the spirit of give and take, but that is not possible because of divergence and differences among us," he said. Indications are that the country is on a decline.overall the Indian economy is in a bad shape. Happy reading..When asked about Congresss failure to clinch an electoral pact with the CPI(M) in West Bengal, the former 160G PE OR PVC PUSTOM TENT(HC-D02) chief minister said it was because the two were on the rival side of the political divide in Kerala.Referring to the seat-sharing agreement between the Congress and CPI(M) for the West Bengal assembly elections in 2016, he said it was not beneficial as "sometimes alliances do not help and go against our own interest". Otherwise, the alliance (its smaller constituents) will dictate. But the local party leaders said no."He also appeared to favour the largest party in a winning coalition deciding which direction the government would take.Gogoi was, however, optimistic about the Congresss prospects in the elections despite the opposition alliance "failing to take-off the way it should have".He said despite the opposition alliance being nebulous because of lack of formal tie-ups, the anti-BJP parties were united in their intent of defeating the BJP and its allies. The single largest party must have sufficient strength so that it is not dependent on alliance all the time.Gogoi, a six-term former MP and union minister, also rubbished the BJPs allegation of the Congress being a "dynastic" party, insisting it was the "most democratic" in the country. It is not moving up, but going down," he claimed."Even in case of an alliance, the largest party can administer and rule the country.Gogoi, when asked if a pre-poll pact between potential partners of the proposed grand alliance could have got them more seats, said: "Nobody can predict that with any amount of certainty..

They would sometimes punish and then reward," he said, apparently, the partys lowest ever tally of 44 seats in 2014 LS polls weighing on his mind."Yes, votes get divided because of this."Rahul Gandhi was keen on alliances most of the time."Farm distress, job loss, slowdown in construction and manufacturing, failure to check price rise, fall in exports and decline in GDP.Guwahati: The oppositions anti-BJP grand alliance "failed" to take the desired shape as Congress president Rahul Gandhi chose not to "override" the sentiments of state leaders who did not favour the move, party veteran and three-time Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi said on Thursday. But who will make the sacrifice? Nobody will sacrifice.

"We must resolutely reform what should and can be changed, we must resolutely not reform what shouldnt and cant be changed. The reforms pulled hundreds of millions of people out of poverty and turned China into the worlds second biggest economy. In a speech at the grandiose Great Hall of the People, Xi vowed to press ahead with economic reforms but made clear that Beijing will not deviate from its one-party system or take orders from any other country."If the Communist Party is smart enough, it may transform it into the starting point of a second reform and opening up and change the role of the party and the state," Wu said. But the economic transformation has not brought changes to the Communist Party-controlled political system, with authorities harshly cracking down on the Tiananmen protests in 1989 and activists complaining of a deterioration of human rights in recent years.Shenzhen has become a global technological hub, with Chinas internet giant Tencent and telecom titan Huawei choosing the city for their headquarters."I think China now is state capitalism under a one-party dictatorship, or party-run capitalism," he said.

Wary of an opposing power base in economically powerful Shanghai, Deng chose the extreme south of the country as the guinea pig for his reforms."No one is in a position to dictate to the Chinese people what should or should not be done," Xi said. This new "revolution" started in the countryside, where authorities began to de-collectivise land and dismantle communes, but it quickly spread to cities. When the party enacted the reforms under Deng, China was still suffering from famine and was emerging from the Cultural Revolution, a period of intense social and political upheaval launched by Mao.Southern cities including Shenzhen, which borders Hong Kong and was still a fishing village, were designated Chinas first Special Economic Zones that became powerhouses and models for the rest of the country."While Xi promised more reforms, he did not offer any specifics. Buoyed by its performance in the last

.The BJP had fielded more than 850 candidates from the minority community in the poll to the three-tier panchayats, with nearly half of them winning the elections.Ghosh claimed his party has expanded its base in Bengal by leaps and bounds and Muslims too are not out of its reach. The BJPs strategy is nothing but a farce and the minorities are very well aware of their intentions," senior TMC leader Partha Chatterjee said. "We are running the government at the Centre and in more than 20 states, Muslims are living in peace and there are no problems.Ghoshs views were echoed by partys Bengal Minority Morcha chief Ali Hossain, who felt Muslims are a deciding factor in the Bengal elections and the party cannot afford to ignore them.In the last Lok Sabha polls, the BJP had fielded only two minority candidates in the state, which has a total of 42 seats. The BJPs aim to make a shift in its political strategy in West Bengal appears to be a result of their harvesting a good number of seats in the local body election early this year by fielding Muslim candidates.

Buoyed by its performance in the last Panchayat polls, the West Bengal BJP has prepared its Lok Sabha blueprint, targeting 26-28 parliamentary seats in the state.State BJP president Dilip Ghosh told news agency PTI that the party will aim to field "considerable" number of Muslim candidates, given the fact that the state has nearly 30 per cent Muslim population.Kolkata: The BJP in Bengal is contemplating to field a "considerable" number of Muslim candidates in the Lok Sabha elections next year with an intent to make inroads into Chief Minster Mamata Banerjees solid support base among minorities."Although in our party, tickets are not distributed on the basis of religion, but we are receiving several applications from people of the minority community, expressing their desire to contest elections on our party ticket," Ghosh said.According to state BJP sources, who did not wish to be named, in order to make party president Amit Shahs target of 22 Lok Sabha seats from Bengal a reality, it is a "necessity" for the party to reach out to the minorities as the beach chairs wholesale community plays a deciding factor in at least 10-12 Lok Sabha seats of the state. The BJPs Bengal minority wing chief Ali Hossain said the ultimate decision on the candidates selection would be of the party. However, since the last Lok Sabha polls in the state, Bengal politics has witnessed a paradigm shift with the BJP emerging as the main challenger of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) by outsmarting the CPI(M) and the Congress. The ruling TMC, however, discounted BJPs minority outreach plan and asserted that they continue to have faith in party chief Mamata Banerjee."We wont pressurise the party by saying that it has to field so many Muslim candidates. Everything will depend on various factors including whether he or she is able to win the seat or not," Hossain told news agency PTI.The BJP minority morcha, West Bengal unit had last week organised a two-day conference to discuss various issues pertaining to the Muslim community. We believe in development for all," he said.

The party presently has two Lok Sabha seats -- Asansol and Darjeeling -- in the state. There is still time left to decide on the issue of candidates and tickets will be distributed on the basis of eligibility, winnability and capability of an individual, he said."The minorities have full faith in us.A number of morcha leaders decided to propagate issues ranging from triple talaq to the Assam NRC to counter the "false propaganda" against the party.

Perhaps the voter can be wooed

This is different from what Benazir Bhutto faced; she was the only heir (from the family) around in the early years of Gen. If anyone has any doubt about what attracts the voters, just watch the election ads of the party. This is another reason the return is necessary now, just as the exit wasn’t so much of a threat back in 2000.But after a bit of hemming and hawing, the return flights have been announced. Now Sharif senior has chosen his daughter as the heir but at the expense of others.Maryam will need to deliver on both these fronts, a tough challenge. Had Nawaz Sharif and Maryam stayed away, the party would have fragmented (further). Nawaz Sharif could act as the elderly statesmen at the national level partly because Shahbaz Sharif ruled Punjab with an iron fist through bureaucrats, squeezing out political rivals and keeping politicians in check.

And in the long run, further challenges await. The PML(N) wrested Punjab away from her by delivering to the voter. In the courts, the legal battle will be fought, perhaps the easiest one of all. Are they trying to keep the big bad wolves at bay? Remove themselves from the game so that there are no further attacks on the party? So that plans to create a China portable hammock patriotic group from the League winners are put away? If they are really serious about sitting in the Opposition, who will bore the government to death, in the absence of Nisar Ali Khan from the Opposition leader’s seat? But is the party also ready to lose Punjab? Or does it still believe that Lahore is still theirs to rule? Till sometime ago, the party and some observers were convinced that even if Islamabad was wrested away from them, Lahore’s throne would still seat a Noonie.By arrangement with Dawn. Despite the slogan of vote ko izzat do, the message is primarily about a party that has delivered on its promises.Back then, there was no threat from within. Why else would Asif Ali Zardari be acquitted in all his corruption cases, which were instituted decades ago?The short-term political battle will mean winning an election (or as much as can be won) on a pitch that is far from even.In the long run, Maryam doesn’t have to struggle the way BB did but she has her own set of challenges. So many variables are at work that one can never take for granted that the legacy might be passed on to a different line. Remember the Q League forward bloc in the Punjab Assembly from 2008-2013?Nawaz Sharif may have been a disinterested Prime Minister but he is not disinterested in his daughter’s inheritance. Nonetheless, the return from London will help the PML(N) candidates struggling against heavy odds even if popular support for the party is said to be intact in central Punjab.

Perhaps the voter can be wooed a second time too.Perhaps age too has brought more political experience and, consequently, insight — exile may be comfortable but those left behind don’t bother to hang around. The judgment wasn’t as much of a surprise as the announcement from London that Mian Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz are returning.Apart from the election woes, there is also NAB. Whosoever wins in the political battlefield also manages to secure the legal one. Only with Punjab under control, could the elder Sharif focus on national politics. The fear is that the party will not be allowed to form the government in case it does win a decent number of seats; perhaps this is why some Noonies try and argue that the party will not make a bid to form the government. Working at "Shahbaz speed" already (or is it "Punjab speed"), the bureau may not slow down after July 25. For all of BB’s contributions to Pakistani politics, her legacy also includes the beginning of her party’s retreat from Punjab, a province that once was the PPP’s as much as Sindh was. For in Pakistan, the legal usually follows the political. This is because Nawaz Sharif’s past refuses to let go — his flight to Saudi Arabia after the military coup had convinced many that this time around too, the party head would flee. Most Noon voters, even today, repose their trust in the "kaam" of the Sharifs rather than the "mindset" and statements of Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz. Zia; by the time, Murtaza Bhutto returned, she had already established her control over the party. It seems as if more people were uncertain about their return than they were about the chances of conviction. However, bad the judiciary may seem to the Sharifs, it doesn’t compare to the justice meted out when a general is in charge. Adding to the confusion were the voices of those who want the Sharifs to stay away — so the PML(N)’s decimation advances a bit further or on behalf of the other heirs who would inherit the throne, if this branch of the family didn’t return. Clearly, 2018 is different from 2000; jail under a military dictatorship is different from imprisonment under a civilian set up.Even if Maryam takes over from her father, whose popularity she seems to lay claim to, she will also have to deliver, the way her father-uncle team have. For, the PML(N) may be Nawaz Sharif’s party but it’s been built on the delivery model shaped by both the brothers. She has replaced Hamza as the political heir to be, but he may not be as willing to play second fiddle all his life as his father has.The train ride ahead promises to be bumpy but Nawaz Sharif and his daughter can’t afford to hop off.But the journey ahead is not a smooth one. Regardless of how well (or poorly) the PML(N) would do on July 25, some of the winners would find a way to move on.
